Peter Berg stages the action well and has a message to deliver here in this terrorist pot-boiler, but his characters are nothing more than four can-do American heroes (FBI agents) saving Saudi Arabia, sunglasses and all. Nothing seems very plausible, but it's still a vicious, stinging piece of filmmaking aspiring to be more than what it is - a lost fireball.

Not bad, not great. Little preachy, and I have to say, I hated the whole "We're gonna kill all of them" parallel. Seemed kind of blunt, and not really fitting with what I thought the movie was trying to say.

First of all, this movie is flawed. I did appreciate its impartiality, it's not really pro-American, but what you get are two different cultures working together, trying to find justice in The Kingdom. The action scenes deserve an honorable mention (it's no Heat, yet still intense and involving). The movie loses steam near the very end where the storyline becomes quite cheesy: "I knew your father VERY well..." Didn't you arrive there 5 days earlier ?! To sum it all up, Berg shows some potential.

An arresting opening credits sequence (if I had a nickel...) and initial action, followed by an hour or so of CSI: Riyadh, finishing up with a big, elephantitis balls-out gun battle. Not as much action as the trailers would have you believe, but a very strong effort from all involved. Except Piven, who needs to stop being his Entourage character in everything. Or just stop being. That would work, too.

Can be devided in 2 parts. The first part ( besides the opening-scene ) is told very calm , when suddenly the second part kickes in ( car crash). After that point the action is unstoppable , and the shaky camera and quick filming makes sure the action is printed at your retina. The ending dialogue was good , but makers didn't succeed in their political goal.

Action and a not-so-subtle political message. It was one of the many war movies to bomb in '07. The last half-hour of the movie is a gripping action sequence, but the movie oveerall is slightly abysmal. It seems like a harsh critique and implies that conflict between the Middle East and the US may never end. The characters are also extremely archetypical. Jamie Foxx is the rocksteady leader, Jason Bateman is the humor, Jennifer Garner is the tough broad, and Chris Cooper is the sage elder. Meh.

An engaging war film that has a stellar cast leading the way. Tension is a big part of a film of this nature and this movie definitely had enough of it to keep things moving forward to the final act. Bateman and Foxx lead the way and definitely allow the rest of the cast to up their game. A worth while film, worth a view.

More an excuse to make an action film set in Mid East than an actual procedural film involving the investigation of a terrorist act. Berg can't quite shoot a proper investigation, but he does know to stage action scenes -- last 30 min are his best film, with close-ups framing tense faces, shootings, car explosions and Jennifer in a fist fight saving Bateman from being beheaded.

The Kingdom starts with a simple yet lead up to a daytime attack in a Western housing compound in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Killed with the gunfire and explosions are scores of woman, children and first responders. This leads to an outcry in the United States, especially within the ranks of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) as they have lost agents in the blast . Of course due to bureaucracy and the tenderness of the situation, the State Department deems the situation off limits.

Well produced action movie unfortunately falters in its examination of U.S. vs Middle East mores and customs; while some effort is made to depict the American characters as merely strangers in a strange land, the prevailing attitude reeks of cultural imperialism, especially from the Bateman character. Otherwise, action scenes are excitingly staged, and performances are generally good, though it's sad to see Cooper wasted in a frivilous supporting role.

I can't say that The Kingdom is worth watching. It's too boring to be called "entertaining", and the camerawork will make you lose focus on whatever it is the film is trying to get across. The final act is quite entertaining, it's just too bad the first two will make you want to turn off the film before you get that far. Decent acting on the whole, but the characters are too one-note to hold your attention, while the story can't decided which direction it wants to take. Overall, not wroth it.

The Bourne influence is thick, and Berg directs with a combination of Greengrass's shakycam realism and Liman's slick, glossy style. While the movie is flawed, it packs some absolutely spectacular action sequences. Like Traitor, it tries to show the softer side of Islam, and while the intent comes from a good place, it also feels really contrived. The film is still very entertaining, with solid acting and action, but there's potential to be much better, especially with this cast.

Not bad. The action at the end is thrilling. The investigation part before it's a bit slow and not involving enough. The end trying to explain some vicious cycle of vengeance is dumb and condescending. Still, the pacing seems right in the end to me, and the gunfight made up for it.

Started off very well with a cleverly put together montage of American-Saudi history, then the film itself quickly descended into George W Bush era grandstanding propaganda. I mean.. Why on earth use the name of a real Muslim fundamentalist in a film which in no way is a true story? I really can't understand the point of this - were they villifying him, glorifying him or was he on the payroll? Rather pathetic.

A culturally and intellectually acidic piece of quasi-Michael-Bay filmmaking. By the end, the Muslim characters (which the film tries SO HARD to portray as objectively as possible) become hooded Villains that must be killed in vast numbers, and in demasculinizing, stupid ways. Really, either be really dumb or somewhat intelligent, but both together is a disservice to your audience. At least the opening graphic montage is fantastic.

A detective thriller that becomes an action movie pumped full of adrenaline, but offers little in the way of perspective on the action. The final sequence can be interpreted in at least three divergent ways given what we know in the film (bad Saudis, bad Americans, or bad world) and the action sequences are more interested in your heart pounding than in giving a sense of what's going on. The best thing about this is the humanizing of the Saudi colonel.

Berg's film is pumped full of thin-lipped, narrowed-eye seriousness. Offhand intensity is as present as military gear in the film, as if it was just another thing the art director could add from the prop room. The result is a film that's made with great focus, but winds up quite hollow. Ashraf Barhom, on the other hands, invests the cooperating Saudi officer he plays with the leery professionalism of a man who's lived his entire life under fire.

A surprisingly well-made, entertaining political thriller. The basic setup was "CSI crossed with 24 in Saudi Arabia," but all the leads performed quite well, even Foxx. And for once the hype surrounding the movie wasn't overexaggerating: the last 30 minutes WERE extremely intense and gripping. The only misstep was the heavy-handed attempt to force some kind of paralellism between the US investigators and the Saudi terrorists at the end.

The opening credits are great. The movie itself is a standard action movie, abit a much more pluasable plot than usual, that takes place in today's world. Thankfully it shows both sides of the coin without straight bad guys and straight good guys. However as an action movie the action itself is lacking. The resolution is a climatic gun battle which feels almost like Heat except simply not as good. The editing isn't as crisp or solid. Still, it's an enjoyable film. Just not great.

The Kingdom is a solid action-drama. It won't do much to distinguish itself from the heap of others just like it, but the action scenes more than make up for it and the setting is at least interesting. The story itself is a little convoluted and the ending is very pretentious and sappy. Overall, The Kingdom is a worthwhile event and it's wholly recommendable.
