The Kid from Cleveland

Actually good. It gives me all-American feelings about family, community, and values. The story seems cliched but the acting isn't overdone and the little touches to the plot make this enjoyable. I imagine this was a big deal for the Indians to be in this movie after their 1948 World Series title. A surprisingly nonchalant inclusion of black players in the story only a couple of years after Jackie Robinson's appearance in the big leagues. Fav scene: visiting young Russ Tamblyn in juvie.

Not a good movie. Tries to blend reforming troubled youth with baseball elements, and it struggles to connect. What stands-out from the experience was that both the young men are still alive as I watch it. It's not often I come across films where multiple people are alive, but here's young versions of Russ Tamblyn & Tommy Cook doing their thing.
