Charles Starrett makes his final appearance as The Durango Kid, this time as Steve Reynolds, a postal inspector who has gone underground to catch the bad guys. His longtime sidekick, Smiley Burnette appears as an itinerant optometrist who is hardly in the plot line of the film. Jock Mahoney plays Jack Mahoney, an eastern educated dude who has come back home. The Durango Kid teaches Jack how to draw and fire a six-gun, and the two ultimately work together to bring the outlaws to justice. (imdb)

Charles Starrett movie career ended almost the same way Lash La Rue's career ended earlier that year. This was the year they killed off the old school B-western, and the final Durango Kid ends with lots of footage from The Fighting Frontiersman (1946) as the basis of a court case. In other words, they didn't bother to shoot a whole movie to conclude the contracts. The '46 film was one of the lesser Durango Kid films, and the newly shot courtroom portion of the film was far better.
