30 minutes in I realized Richard Gere was trying to be serious about his accent and not just impersonating Lucky Charms commercials.

Over and above the obligatory bigger gun and bigger action sequences, the principal accretion is in the recruitment of an incarcerated IRA "freedom fighter" (Gere, huffing and puffing with emancipationist passion) to the pursuit team on the trail of the Assassin of a Thousand Hairstyles (Willis, primly smirking as usual). The one positive sign of intelligence in the movie was the decision to hire Venora for the part of the Russian major with the Phantom-of-the-Opera burn mark on her right temple

It has good actors, well acted but it is disappointing. The story is bad, or just poorly executed. There are some absurdities, such as paying 70 million to kill someone. At the scene of Jack Black, when explodes the arm is also very poorly done.

The beginning is very strong: rich characters/character development, lots of intrigue and even some fun action. But the end is very weak/contrived, almost like they didn't have a script as they filmed and finally just attempted to wrap it up at all costs.

Repulsive and unlikeable destruction of a classic. Has so many plot holes, you can fit a Buick Century in them. On top of that, it has a convenient ending. Why would an Irish terrorist date a Basque terrorist? Also, Richard Gere, your accent sucks.

This was a great movie until some retard decided that the good guys should win by making the built up to be impressivly bad villian make a serries of the most boneheaded moves of the century in order to be caught. Much like cooking the best meal possible to impress a food critic at your restaraunt only to have a waiter piss in his soup at the table.

A definite must-see from the 90s classic action-canon. For once we cheer for a bad guy who is not an antihero, just straight up evil. Oh, the guilt-free joy! We're never even given much of a choice when the arch-enemy (good guy) of a clandestine, gadget utilizing, non-fuck-giving BRUCE "DIE HARD" WILLIS is...Richard "Pretty Woman" Gere trying on various British accents to little success and otherwise doing nothing. Everything else is just beautiful nonsense in a way only the 90s can justify.

This movie is IMO a bit under rated.Everyone i know and many articles and reviews i read say that the two leads were miscast and the movie was not believable enough because of that.Tho not a fan of Gere,I thought Willis was suave, cool ,sort of like a evil Bond. I think to many people thought this was gonna be some tom clancy politically themed thriller kinda movie a la clear and present danger or sum of all fears, and it turned out to to be a (slow) action movie. Which it was. And it wasn't bad!

Surprisingly good for a Bruce Willis film, particularly in an unsympatheric role. Clearly strongly influenced by the day of the jackal this is an alternative film rather than a remake. The characters are believable, a decent plot and more than enough pace and suspense to make this a watchable thriller

(after repeat viewings) This movie is so 90's, it hurts. It's right up there with other run-of-the-mill action flicks from the day that I used to watch rigorously as a 9-year-old film lover, but which have sadly not stood the test of time. Both this and the original are altogether joyless films; I think movies with a villain as its main focus prove forgettable when said character aren't backed by an equally memorable protagonist (e.g. Hannibal Lecter & Clarice Starling). Carter Burwell MVP!
