The Invisible Boy

Stupid but fun

Out of all the "invisible" movies, this was one my least favorite. However, it did introduce quite a heavy premise about man vs machine that I have to give extra credit. Just needed a better overall script.

Exceptionally strange, there's some deep darkness to it. Shades of The Thing and Hal's shutdown. It's also, I guess, a direct sequel to Forbidden Planet, heavily implying Robby was brought back to the past after being returned to earth by the C-57D.

Good cast (and the kid is very good indeed). Movie seems to want to be a real scifi movie at the same time it's engaging in Disney-style Shaggy Dog hijinx, thus making for an uneasy mix. Score, while good, seems sometimes misplaced and a victim of this same confusion. Plot contains more than the usual amount of semi-science and pure gibberish for this genre. Wow, Robby is actually pretty evil in this one (at least, until toward the end).

...Thanks for the spoilering, IMDB. Surprisingly for a film this old, the plot here (which isn't much about an invisible boy) is awfully cyberpunk. Way, way more Robby in this than in Forbidden Planet. It ain't great, but it's fun alright.
