Oddly this film's paranoid takes on vaccinations and the CDC didn't get it a resurgence after COVID. It's a mixed bag with bad dialogue and Idiot Ball plot scenes weighed against innovative editing and cool world-building. However, the only new slant from previous Pod People pictures is an Equilibrium-esque argument on how purging human emotions will usher in a utopia. Still, marginal recommendation for Nicole Kidman teaching a kid to give her an adrenaline shot to the heart Pulp Fiction style.

Excerpts from conversations while watching this film: "Why did she do that?" "Why didn't she kill him?" "This makes no sense." "We should've smoked some weed before watching this." "Daniel Craig needs a haircut and an acting coach." "wha" "Why did that happen?" "This is so fucking gay." "Why is every other scene Nicole Kidman hugging her annoying kid? We get it bitch, you love your son. Move on kthx" "You have any excedrin cause this shitty editing is giving me a headache?" "Let's get high" "k"

all the previous "body snatchers" films have been reflecting the political mood of their period. they have all been the same film, but still carried a different political context. hirschbiegel's film's aim to a political argument is absurdly naive and plain stupid. and I should add that kidman also doesn't work. not with all the irritating botox.

I feel bad for Oliver Hirshbiegel, who has for the most part turned in taut, atmospherically chilling work. This movie was killed in the editing room, presumably sometime after Hirschbiegel was dumped from the director's chair and replaced by McTeigue in post. The film has several jarring edits and jump-cuts that completely spoil the moods Hirschbiegel worked so hard to create. While this may not have been a great movie if left in his hands, I have to believe it would be better than what we got.

Surprisingly Nichole Kidman is quite entertaining and also very beautiful in this movie. Daniel Craig is also great. The aliens are all emotionless, dull and rather boring, passing their plague by puking on people. But then they have to sleep for it to set in, like the old invasion of the body snatchers movie. The dogs reacting like they did was stupid. There were holes in the plot, but it is still thought provoking and entertaining. Music was very good and there was plenty of action.

It's rare that a film is the embodiment of its own idea, as a ham-fisted but well meaning rumination on human emotions - complete with a "these are our themes" speech - is slowly replaced with a dim-witted action film. The audience might even be napping partway through, mirroring the method of infection depicted on screen, so they'd wake up to a movie that looks like what they started watching, but isn't quite the same. It's like one bad movie has been replaced by another! Clever.

Oh, the Belicecs and Bennell (Nicole) are back, so are the friendzoned doc (Craig), to force a connection with the movie from 1978 and even with the recent conflicts in Mideast. Too much. This was meant to fail. They should just stop trying to remake Body Snatchers once and for all.

A bomb in every sense of the word, and not just becasue it was so obviously butchered in an editing room by the studio- bored-stiff performances, gaping plot-holes, an immensely dumb, lame ending, dull attempts at "action" and more ensure that the Body Snatchers concept will stay buried for a good while longer before it's remade yet again.

I thought that it started off pretty well. Then it fell completely flat and didn't get any better either. A typical, predictable, sappy movie about Kidman loving a child. She expresses that well through a million textmessages (why??) to him. Many wtf moments. This movie just sucked. Shitty ending too

A nice sci-fi thriller with a bit too much vomiting to suit my taist. The tension is kept up decently and a few scenes, like the copule jumping of a bridge are actually quite powerful. The theme about the humain nature is annoyingly preachy and banal, but passed that the movie is enjoyably creepy.

The main problem is the film just takes you out of it a lot. In the beginning a scientist handles a piece of metal without any gloves seconds after a news broadcast says not to do this. How on earth could the scientist not know this? Later Kidman is running in an urban area being chased by tens of people, jump cut into a large city and no one's following her. These types of flaws just prevent you from getting into the movie. Also the message at the end is so heavy handed it's almost laughable.

Things in this movie that felt weird to watch now; 1) global pandemic and 2) a Russian diplomat saying how in a world with no crime and violence human beings cease to be humans, because bruuuh. The hints of changes in the news and in how the city started having a different mood were very nicely done and seeing people familiar to you turning into emotionless drones would be very creepy indeed.

By far the worst adaptation of Finney, The Invasion is so lousy that it forces me revaluate Ferrara's version. The story goes that it was butchered in post (i.e. it's atrociously edited) but that doesn't explain the bad acting (including Kidman) or the lack of suspense. The attempts to update the material for late Bush era America are also completely unconvincing, and Craig, a wooden plank on a good day, simply looks lost. Some of the dialogue is laughable and the ending is cheap.

Terrible in most every respect. Kidman tries to save this movie, but she's fighting a lost cause for the whole poorly paced runtime. There's a total lack of atmosphere or suspense, & tonally the whole film just feels off. The screenplay is poor, with many scenes feeling unexplored & underdeveloped just adding to general ethos of untapped potential that seeps through the entire movie. Daniel Craig works the gay fringe & turtle neck combo a treat though. Can I add bonus marks for that? Yes I can.

The Invasion is watchable, but that's about as good as it gets. There are great moments, and ones that really get your heart racing, but every now and then, we come to a screeching halt, and it takes a long time to get the momentum that was building up back. It has a good cast and a good premise, but is predictable, doesn't have great enemies, and doesn't use its cast to the best of its ability.

Invasion isn't really a failure. I was reasonably convinced that they had reason to remake it and I thought the pace was much more reminiscent of older sci-horror than today's actionfests. Too bad the editing was not just bad but confusing and it didn't have any charm to call its own. That's right, no pointing at people and making a frightly gasping noise

Starting off at a snail's pace and never reaching its full potential, The Invasion makes use of starring an A-lister in an otherwise dull thriller. Much like I am Legend, but to a lesser extent, the weight of the movie is held on Kidman's shoulders and hers alone. The middle segment is at least entertaining, albeit unfulfilling, the movie lingers around trying to be more intense than it ever could hope to be. It's worth a watch, but don't expect much out of it.

If you are familiar with the other film versions, you should have a good time. This one certainly shares its faults, but it manages to hold interest and keep things tense, while failing to really frighten you like the '78 version did. It has ideas, a fresher look, and a message that more than wants to smack you over the head. Enough is enough there-but the performances are generally good, and if you know what you're getting into, it's not one to bore. It's no classic- merely an easy distraction.
