Nothing but silence. Nothing but a revolutionary song. A story in five chapters like the five fingers of a hand. (imdb)

Essayistic stream-of-consciousness nightmare out of which spills a sensorial assault of mismatched audio and image splicing where not one second of found footage is in sync. Text and image and sound contradict and derail and interrupt in endless loops. Loud to soft to loud and soft to silence. Oversaturated images. Glitched images. Images within images. Oneiric and impenetrable and deeply personal, Godard's memories of cinema collide with a starkly cynical view of contemporary living.

30 August 2018 & I had constantly ask to myself; what is the truth and what is the fiction? The frames changes, the ratio changes, the reality changes. But the fiction remains. Sometimes when I watch Godard's last period, I feel there's nothing left to shoot/record. The age of youtube is the age of collage. Everything is (the right) image. Our memories with their framed horizon''. Godard is thinking with his hands. When he talked to himself, he speak the words of another.

First Godard does 3D better than anyone and then he turns around and gives us the GOAT post credit scene?? Someone give this guy a job at Marvel!

Fascinating dirge from Godard is difficult to assess objectively as its presentation is so deliberately diffuse, obtuse and (one suspects) incomprehensible that normal assessment tools are useless. It's never dull, with a hodgepodge of imagery ranging from Golden Age Hollywood to Middle East political news archival footage assembled in an inscrutable, somehow rhythmic way (eg. a sequence from VERTIGO is captured, distorted and used strikingly). Liable to piss off as many viewers as it pleases!

trying to comprehend this collage essay is like harrassing someone during their sleep. it is obvious that they are not in a position to be willing to offer that. yes, in both cases you are on your own with your intellectual or physical masturbation while watching.

- What I most took away from Godard's latest incomprehensible essay consisting of footage of old movies, newsreel and other stuff is that Godard is (still) very angry at the world. And while it is incomprehensible (to me, some others might find a lot of meaning in it) on a cinematic level some parts were edited so interesting that I can't hate this either.

Distorted, saturated images of violence -- both in violence and on film -- serve as a reflection on contemporary geopolitics, specially in the Middle East. Not the very best essay film by Godard, but it always provides a compelling experience.

It is a very interesting production and I have to say that I enjoyed watching it. French-Arab culture is one of the things that attracted my attention, Godard's narration and music he used was quite impressive. Of course, we had the chance to see scenes from many legendary movies. It was special for me to see a legend like Buster Keaton. Aphorisms in the movie? it isn't the first time we've heard of it, but with Godard's genius, it has taken on an original mold. Not for everyone but i liked it.

Not sure whether to call this an essay, collage, or what. Deals with the disjunction between words and images and ideas and reality. Hard to pin down, but also surprisingly coherent. There's a point that's made, through rhyming images, about how many things we see devolve into their atrocious archetype - all explosions become The Bomb, all trains become cattle cars to the Nazi death camps. The long fictional segment in the second half of the film seems more particular and less successful.

You know these "I forced an AI to watch 1000 hours of XYZ" viral tweets? This feels like the closest thing to what we would actually get from that. Almost entirely impenetrable, but frequently interesting on a visual level, this film would likely play better as an art installation than being streamed on a living room TV.

BlurayRip no MKO
