The Illustrated Man

Strange sci-fi that is bizarrely intriguing. Steiger is good though a bit over-the-top at times. I am a Bradbury fan, so this was a good one for me to check off my list.

Em honra do centenário de Ray Bradbury filme #2. Estou escrevendo isso horas depois de tê-lo visto porque não sei se gostei ou não, é que ele absorve uma ideia ótima, mas o resultado geral é meio insosso. Uma coisa é certa: fiquei interessadíssima em ler o livro do Bradbury. Blurayrip RARBG.

Not bad.

Like Bradbury's writing, it's mostly hit and miss. A couple of these are pretty damned good, but the rest drag on annoyingly. The real ace in the hole here is uproarious laughter every time Steiger says "skin illustrations" with what sounds like a Cajun accent.

The cast playing roles both inside and outside the fantasy sequences is a good conceit possibly inspired by the director's work in theater. Steiger is good as long as he keeps his shirt on. Some nifty sets and campy costumes, but the film is often dull and quaint.

Not exactly a faithful adaptation of the book, but intriguing in its own right. There's a strange mood to the whole thing, and the enigmatic ending is a bit frustrating but I think it's fitting. The sequences involving the stories from the illustrations are kind of cheesy and dated in appearance, but they work well enough within the confines of the story. Recommended for the great performance from Steiger and for the unusual concept.
