The Idea of You

Did this book get really popular on Booktok and that's why it was turned into an equally bad movie? Because this feels like the kind of non-spicy trash that would thrive on TikTok. Stop publishing mid-level Wattpad writing into actual books. Just cringed the whole time watching this.

A lot of the film feels like a piece of fan fiction and there are quite a few convenient plot jumps that feel rushed over. That said, Anne Hathaway is fantastic in this movie and proves what a stunning actress she can be, even with a sub-par script. The scene where she expresses her humiliation over her ex-husband's cheating that led to their divorce is pitch-perfect acting. Sadly, the rest of the film lacks the emotional depth of Hathaway's performance and is fairly forgettable.

"How did we met? I mistook a coachella trailer for a bathroom, because I'm that dumb!"

I would punch Ollie in the face at that time without a moment of doubt.

I like this because the romance is placed in a situation that's different than most romcoms. It's not relatable for most people, but the fantastical nature of it is endearing. It also has layers: has to deal with romance (obviously), placed in the context of not only a huge age difference but fame as well. Hathaway is such a prestige talent. The material is strong regardless but she still elevates it.

My expectations for The Idea of You were low, but it exceeded them. While predictable, it had engaging moments that held my interest. The ending wasn’t remarkable but felt like a relief after the film’s drawn-out pace. Despite this, it wasn’t a total letdown, offering some surprisingly enjoyable moments. It’s not perfect, but it surpassed what I anticipated.

Very cheesy. Good if you like rom coms and dont mind a little cheesiness (or a lot). A basic, easy, light watch.

Anne Hathaway is one of my favorites. She's adorable and is only getting better. She makes this movie. Great ending.

Why is Michael Showalter directing this if they aren't going to make it funny? The main issue with this is that the male love interest has no discernible flaws. I guess that's what makes it a great female fantasy, but it doesn't make for an interesting story. Hathaway is great (when isn't she?), but it's not enough.

Loved it. Miss good rom coms!
