The Houses October Built

I don't think it's that bad, really, but it could obviously have been scarier if it wasn't so formulaic. Among other things, it's one of "found footage"'s countless fashion victims. The premise of it all being shot by in-story cameras and reassembled is particularly farcical in this one, which adds perpetual distraction to the tedium of the shaky camera. I'm not asking you guys to use dolly-mounted Ari Alexas, just learn to setup a shot and show us folks who aren't filming themselves.

More found footage, this time we delve into the world of underground haunted houses at Halloween. Huh?

Surprisingly solid found footage flick, where a group of economical tourists try to track the nastiest scary houses in America. As one obnoxious condescending character says, "backwoods shit".

Boring and misleading!

On the whole, this is a fairly entertaining ride for what it is. A found-footage horror that shamelessly makes use of every trope in the genre, it also manages to do a pretty good job of that. Decent (if unlikeable) characters, fine performances, and a very effective eerie atmosphere that's built throughout are its strengths. On the other hand, it's held back by a repetitive plot, a strange non-ending, & the fact that suspending disbelief is about impossible after a point. Still, worth a look.

Too over the top and ridiculous to work in my opinion. I felt like the movie would've been better if they would've just arrived at a 'real' haunted house or with real killers instead of the whole stalking aspect.

It's scary at times, but the issue that it has (as is the case for most found footage horror movies) is that the moments that aren't scary are just plain boring; there's no suspense or tension. The ending was pretty bad, too. Even then, a lot of the spooks were super well done, and they managed to keep me on edge.
