Adapted by Charles Burnett from his own short story, this lyrical meditation on race relations is also a coming-of-age tale. Although it was shot in Northern California, Burnett has called The Horse a "kind of allegory about the South." (mfah.org)

There's something going for it, at least.

Rudimentary performances but tells an effective story, presumably about the question of who gets called in when there's dirty work to be done. Final shot reminiscent of THE 400 BLOWS.

somehow this very slow short film about basically nothing managed to hold tension to the end. it doesn't work as an allegory. best viewed with the uncanny valley in mind. some of the spoken dialogue sounds ever so slightly unnatural.

Like an iceberg theory short story. Says quite a bit about its characters in a very short time.

An okay allegory, but it's far too slow.
