On the windswept Suffolk mudflats creaks a bird-hide, inside which hovers Roy Tunt, a prematurely aged, mildly obsessive-compulsive birder. With one more sighting - the elusive sociable plover - he will have 'twitched' the entire British List. Suddenly, in the midst of a conversation with Sandra's portrait, the hide door blows open and a bedraggled stranger - unshaven, edgy and bloodied introduces himself as Dave John, a fugitive from the storm. Top badass moment? Bird watching is train-spotting for the middle class. And rather distressingly, I can sort of understand what people find enjoyable about both. So despite his obvious flaws, Roy deserves some credit for (almost) spotting the entire 567 species described on the British List of Birds. Sadly it's a somewhat Pyrrhic victory, as the number has now increased to 606 and I don't think Roy's going to be adding to his number anytime soon. No cats, chainsaws or decapitations.

Good. A game of cat and mouse between an eccentric birdwatcher and a neurotic stranger in a remote shack. There are really just 2 very capable actors in this film and they carry off what what could easily have been an exercise in tedium to a very satisfying conclusion. But it may not appeal to most audience due to its taut yet bare-essentials storyline. Recommended.

The thriller pared down to the barest minimum: 2 men in a shack. That this is so compelling is a tribute to MacQueen and Campbell - their performances are faultless. The script is pretty good too, with many moments of very English black humour.

Not a bad effort for a thriller with such a self-imposed limitation as only 2 characters. Never threatened to touch greatness, but very watchable. Decent cinematography, score and direction.
