Early Griffith hits like "The Lonedale Operator" and "The Girl and Her Trust" established plucky telegraph operators as leading action heroines of the silent era. Helen Holmes was one of the most prominent stuntwomen to stake a whole career on the genre. Dozens and dozens of times over, she (or one of the other actresses she shared the role with occasionally) must leap, race, shoot or do something similarly exciting in order to stop a speeding locomotive. Some fun action; lots of trains.

Loved it. Apparently there was a whole series dedicated to a woman kicking ass in 1914. And apparently she directed them, too.
