Abhorrent, tasteless garbage would be merely a lurid, ugly exploitationer without the Tate connection; seeing these real-life horrific events filtered through a slasher movie machine creates a deeply troubling (though arguably more memorable) experience. On its own terms, the film-making is shoddy (lots of swooping camera work) and performances are weak, though admittedly Duff does her best to at least make Tate likable. Ultimately irredeemable for its approach to its sensitive subject matter.

I refuse to believe this is any worse than Once Upon a Time in Hollywood but I also refuse to watch Once Upon a Time in Hollywood or any Tarantino garbage from the last decade. Hilary Duff may not be much of an actress but she's still not as much of a hack as DiCaprio. Both movies are revisionist histories and thus do a disservice to the victims.

The filmmakers should be ashamed of themselves for making a film like this. How can you call yourself a decent human being and then make this piece of shit? Disrespectful and insulting to Tate and the other victims of this tragedy and a terrible film to boot.

Hollywood exploiting tragedy is par course. Just usually no one even notices, let alone do they care. Empathy is reserved for the most special among us. Yet suddenly uproar if the Hollywood machine scrapes up its own innards & pain for easy monetization as its always done? All that beautiful irony in the air is certainly worth a few bonus points at least. Too bad the film sucks enough to not warrant any credit of its own. .

We're ten minutes in before any lines are spoken one character to another. There's build-up, and then there's just plain wasting time. Anyway, Hillary Duff is an interesting casting choice for Tate, but it's tough to get past the (admittedly-occasional) dollar-store philosophy and almost goofy (certainly not tense) tactics of the Manson killers. Eventually this falls off the rails into a fleetingly-interesting home invasion that retcons itself at break-neck speed. Is "pointless" too harsh here?

Honestly I didn't feel that this film exploited the victims nor do I feel like this was a bad idea to make this movie. What I do feel however is that this has some incredibly bad acting, shitty sound design, piss poor music and below average direction.

Exploiting the victims of real life violent crimes for profit is probably not a great decision.
