This came out around the same time as images of the Tet Offensive were showing on the nightly news. The amount and severity of propaganda and misinformation carried in this film is despicable.

An astounding portrait of John Wayne's collapsing psyche.

Not so much bad, as pure evil. The infamously wrong "we're fighting for you" scene would have been more appropriate if only Il Duke would have punctuated it by reaching back and rabbit punching the kid into a vegetative state.

This movie was really trashed by critics. I won't go that far, but I think it was kind of a miss. G-rated Viet Nam movie? It was obviously pro-War propaganda film, based on dialogue. However, some of the battle scenes were excellent. Some other scenes were too light and almost comical. Wayne co-directed.

a war movie=a movie that promotes war and justifies its own propoganda by assuming you have the IQ of 42.

If this is not Wayne at his best (I prefer westerns) then its sure close. The Duke still 'gets' those commies going even today

Yeah, yeah. I know. It's just that I like war movies, and this one's got the Duke in it. The propaganda is blatant, but that, for me, is part of the film's appeal - it is a picture of the times it was made in.
