This is such a random, unbelievable true story, I loved it!. There are definitely funny moments although there are also, of course, very serious and thought provoking/insightful moments too. Its a good film at making you think about the consequences of war - it doesn't shy away from that but the basic story is so random, as I say, its pretty memorable and it features a good cast, including Russell Crowe, who plays a TV reporter/journalist and a short appearance from Bill Murray.

I wanted to like this more than I did. Efron and Crowe were good on the whole, although the latter wasn't in it long enough. The issue was the absurd level of ignorance of Efron's main character throughout. If it was a fictional movie I'd probably have turned it off halfway through. As a "based on true story" dramatization I felt compelled to stick it out. Most characters come across as cringe and there's a large quantity of overacting. It does portray some of the sudden chaos well however.5.3

Guy thinks he’s built different and can just waltz into a warzone for lolz. Unfortunately he’s not quite literally me and really should’ve played the CIA persona with belligerence. Not funny enough to be a comedy, and not good enough to be a drama. The parody of conservative politics is on the nose but not actually terrible, not that anything matters since the dramatic moments never hit the mark. Not all bad, and there are some cool moments in between the boredom and cringe.

zac efron shone through with this, it was funny, real and superb acting by him. what it failed to show like platoon and apocalypse now is the gritiness and realism of what really happnened, it tried but it did not show the chaos and the extent. towards the end the fairytail dyed down and showed what saignon was really like

It's an odd duck, and the tonal balancing act works often enough. Efron surprises again.

This was a great story and I think the script was done really well to show off the characters, the adventure, and the weight of the whole situation. But man, Farrelly seems only capable of getting cartoony performances from his actors (Efron and Crowe seemed to rise above that), so literally all of the supporting cast constantly took me out of things.

“The Greatest Beer Run Ever” is a decent film that manages to stick the landing with its emotional manipulation. It’s not groundbreaking, but it’s effective in delivering its message to a modern mainstream audience. Zac Efron’s performance is the highlight of the film, but the uneven storytelling and technical aspects hold it back from being truly great.

It's a very bland movie. It begins as a clumsy attempt to represent both political sides and ends with reasonable but mundane anti-war platitudes. It's only insightful if you know nothing of the Vietnam war. The comedy bits and emotional moments fall flat due to uncompelling dialogues and passable to weak performances. It's not even entertaining because it's visually unimpressive, the story is repetitive, and you can guess where the plot is going right from the start. Utterly forgettable.

Repeats the Green Book formula of having a conservative bum slowly see the light. I guess it's an affront to critics to even consider such a trajectory anymore. The mix of tones seems to be a problem, the traditional cinematography, the heart it brings to the table. Well, it was all beautiful to me, calculated just right as entertainment, but with the necessary chaos to drive home a simple point: question your life, grow up. And Efron is great, not above the material, with laser-focused naiveté.

Now they are going to wait 50 years and then make an anti-war movie about what they did in middle east.

I loved it all the way. Nice story, great pace, well directed and amusing. It's 2 full hours long, but the time passes very fast, because it's an entertaining movie.

I usually like the "ordinary guy trapped in the middle of extraordinary situations" type of formula. But first, you need those situations have direct consequences on your guy, and not just make him a passive observer. Then those situations have to speak out for themselves, not simply in overwritten dialogue. And finally, you need a much better cast than Zac Efron (who is also too old to play this part).
