Hugo Haas hooks up with Beverly Michaels again, after the brilliantly trashy Pickup (1951). This time a more wholesome start, which turns into a ironic twist of faith brought on by fear and guilt. Less Michaels in this one, and more about Haas' own struggles. Could possibly have needed better nasty individuals, but Haas' good natured persona carries his side strong for a satisfying story.

A B movie that punches above its weight - though the plot is imbued with the values of its time it is sufficiently different that it can't be labelled "generic" nor IMO "predictable". Yes.
