The Girl in a Swing

An English antiques dealer marries a German woman after a whirlwind romance in Copenhagen, but her deeply mysterious past threatens their happiness. This flick takes forever getting to the interesting part, and then chintzes out by never explaining any of the supernatural shit going on. I have a feeling the novel is probably much more coherent. Meg Tilly is young and sensual (and very naked in a few scenes), but her German accent is pretty laughable, rendering half of her dialog unintelligible.

A lot more compelling than it has any right to be. The normally unsurprising Hessler invests this movie with a sense of inevitable doom amid bursts of passion, resulting in a film that, though bleak, implausible, and overlong, is impossible to forget.
