The Girl from the Naked Eye

What a pointless waste of time. The best thing about this was the highly choreographed martial arts scenes. All the rest, acting, story, etc... I gotta stop wasting my life on junk like this.

Pretty solid indie noir. The good: pretty good visuals, decent acting , inspired Oldboy influenced (clearly) hallway brawl, chemistry between Jake and Sandy surprisingly nice, good fight scenes in other places as well. The bad: some parts are unintentionally bad, I thought maybe the movie was going for some comedy but I'm not really so sure now. I think maybe they failed when they were trying to be hardcore sometimes. But fun, moody film, mostly succeeds but doesn't blow minds.

A lot more fun than most movies of this ilk. The "hardcore" dialogue seems to be slyly parodying hardcore dialogue, fully conscious of its own camp. At least I hope so, for the sake of the writers--otherwise, it falls into the "so bad it's (almost) good" camp. The fight scenes veer toward camp, too, they're so energetically over-the-top. They final big brawl choreographed to Ravel's Bolero argues for "conscious of its own camp".

Difficult to rate. It looks interesting, it is definitely made with a lot of energy and perfection by the director(s) and actors. But after a while I felt more and more detached from the protagonist, and the fight scenes became boring. I guess their inspiration came from Sin City, but that one was brutal. This one is rough as well, but it is still missing something.
