Glad I saw this film's sequel, Mexican Spitfire, & the rest of the franchise first since they're more overtly comedic & the laughs are bigger (& much more frequent in the first couple), although this made me laugh a couple of times too. After watching all the Lord Epping variations grow a bit tired it was wonderful to see how relatively subdued it all began. An unfairly forgotten franchise probably bc early PC/Woke types can't see past a stereotype to the strong female lead & anti-racist subtext

The first of the Mexican Spitfires! Setting off a series of films starring hot tempered latina Lupe Velez which would last until 1943. And Lupe is my kind of girl! So mad! Good she got a series of movies to take advantage of her talents at the end of her career. The Girl from Mexico (1939) is a fairly middle of the road comedy with Velez being the one making the material come to life, plus this was a rare case where Leon Errol didn't murder a comedy.
