Early new wave effort from Rohmer which was the first of his six moral tales. It concerns a young man who approaches a girl in the street, but after several days without seeing her again, he becomes involved with the girl in the local bakery. Eventually he has to choose between them when he arranges dates with them on the same day. (imdb)

Perfect! But final could be a little bit longer (at least we should have seen bakery girl's reaction).

The first of Rohmer's moral tales succeeds in constructing a situation very clearly, with very few resources, and succeeds as well at drawing a genuine question from that situation. Also, very nice to see Monceau in the 1960s.

Really charming with an ambiguous moral center, like a breezy but memorable short story.

In his very first film Rohmer was already good at telling stories about swinging feelings in real sexual life, even though it doesn't have as much subtlety as some of his later films.

It was entertaining enough I guess but the guy was a complete douche.

Unexpectedly great. And relatable. I feel like I've spent my whole life with bakery girls of Monceau. What I like best about this is the way Rohmer captures growing attraction in small, carefully observed moments, masterfully using close-ups to heighten the emotion of a scene. It's just a beautiful little story. I wish it didn't end quite so abruptly, but I guess that's probably the whole point.

It's sort of weird to see Rohmer trying something more poetic, especially since he would later declare such filmmaking to be of no interest to him. Even with that quality, this still feels like a Rohmer film. There's a shot here that anticipates the film's twist, which he apparently learned from Hitchcock. That's more evidence that he had the blood to make a thriller, but (thankfully) cared more about people talking about relationships.

Really good, especially in the final few minutes. Rohmer uses voice over that comes from some future moment, the man older than he was then, which brings with it subtle moments of critique ("that's what I told myself then," "like a coward"). This is a man whose moral center lies within himself, and thus his morality is ultimately self-serving. But is that even in question, with all the littering this guy does?

Velhasıl kelam verilmek istenen mesaja "Kendimiz her zaman haklıyızdır. Gerisi bizi ilgilendirmez. O bize inananların sorunu." maruz kalmamanız dileğiyle

Two moral tales down, four to go. If the rest are in the same league as this short and 'Claire's Knee', I'm in for a treat.

Very good intro to Eric Rohmer's Six Moral Tales. Probably one of the best short movies I've watched.

Concluding my viewing of the Six Moral Tales with its first entry. A tight psuedo-love-triangle that merits some pondering with its abrupt finale. Loved these 6 films overall.

Obviously an early effort and sort of student film-ish, but still very quintessentially Rohmer thematically, and the nouvelle vague vibe is a plus.

In the first Rohmer's moral tale an amorous French guy is presented with a moral dilemma - should he go to date with a bakery girl he picked up by 'mistake', or should he be a dick and go out with a chick he really likes instead of showing up at the date he set up previously? Charming film in that stylish French new-wave way.

I don't know how the story could extend beyond 20 minutes, but I feel like I could have kept watching for another hour. Loved the characters. That ending a stinger.

a really thoughtful little short film on the accidentality of romance. despite being labelled as a moral tale, it is entirely ambiguous as to the right and wrong of the situation, which in a way might make it more superior a moral tale than if there were explicit judgement. (i mean, i'm sure i'd disagree with what i wrote now)
