If I'm not mistaken you can one of the first close-ups in this picture which is relevant to the story.

Dumb. The funniest part of this movie is the title (unintentionally so, of course)

I laughed twice, at the closeup and the consequence, so I'd say it's pretty good.

And here I was thinking the film would be about a gay man trying to cope with the prejudice 20th century bigotry whilst just trying to sell customers pink shoes with sparkles on them. Vastly disappointed.

It still gets the laughs it was aiming for, at least.

Subtext: the lady was played by a man. I wonder how many 1903-era guys that ankle aroused, and what percentage of them thought the Shoe Clerk was just a particularly happy dude.
