Despite a ceasefire being called the fighting continues around the Aerok Hills on the eastern front as this will help determine the future dividing line of the North and the South. Amongst the fighting a South company commander is found dead by a Southern bullet. Lieutenant Kang Eun-pyo is sent to investigate the murder and is surprised to see an old friend, Kim Soo-hyeok, not only alive but as a commander in the battle. But that is not the only surprise. This movie puts a fine point on the tragic pointless futility of fighting over Aerok Hills in the Korean war. The territory changed hand dozens of times. The only progress was in lives lost. The final battle was absurd with captains sacrificing their men for one last bloodbath even after the armistice was signed. I was not particularly impressed with how they handled the female sniper as this plot point felt contrived. Worth watching but flawed.

A very entertaining Korean war movie, not better than "Tae Guk Gi" but great. This one leans to the side of drama, more than horrific war sequences, but there's still great action and some gore in it. There's some interesting and prevalent sentiments that you can pick up on the Korean war only when watching a Korean production, it was a civil war, after all, and it's easy to forget that, but in 1950 the people north and south of the 38th parallel didn't have many differences and they knew it.
