The Frenchman's Garden

A sombre, grounded effort from Naschy here compared to a lot of his other work. While, as usual, he gets to grips with some naked ladies, the overall setting and mood is pretty dark and there isn't much levity. A few nasty murders and a rather unpleasant abortion sequence don't raise the mood. It actually feels quite well made and composed. Naschy keeps a lid on his own performance, and the film does actually feel like a serious historical piece; no hairy werewolf shenanigans here. Interesting.
