The movie that inspired Pauline Kael to quip, "Sandy Dennis has made an acting style of postnasal drip." And about the movie: "D.H. Lawrence's 1923 novella stripped of its subtlety, Freudianized, and turned into something resembling Lillian Hellman's The Children's Hour, but in a woodsy setting. [...] You have to go back to Lawrence to see how much more powerful and frightening the repressed sexuality that he was writing about was." Right, as always...it's an exercise in blandness.
