This film wouldn't be shown on big screens on year 2020 because BLM movement. Not really into racist movements but The Four Feathers really begs to get nosebleed. Movie itself is mediocre. Luckily, director Shakhar Kapur asks at least questions about Imperium acts in Sudan.

Though beautiful to look at, The Four Feathers lacks epic excitement and suffers from an ambivalent viewpoint.

Lumbering attempt at an imperial epic that fails to critique imperialism.

You gotta love Hounsou. When he's on screen, the film is 50% better. I actually liked the way this film ended. Premise was better than the plot. Action scenes were pretty intense, I guess. Movie is just memorable enough but fails to be very good just the same.

"Tedious and overblown even at a surprisingly short two hours, Four Feathers is the movie made for the teeny boopers who don't want to read the book." - Ed Gonzalez

Nothing special, just another historical war tome as well as a remake. Could have been worse.

Recently re-watched this and was struck by how horribly well it creates the attitudes around masculinity and empire that evolved after 9/11...

Ledger makes the most of this mediocre mess

Rather uninteresting, and during the majority of the movie, I said to my self, "why exactly should i care?" Never once was there an answer. Seriously, it's the twenty-first century, who in their right mind would care about "honor", if having it gets you killed. The jailing and subsequent escape was the only part I actually liked, but less than half an hour out of three is simply not worth it.

This is a film about: friendship, cowardice, moral integrity, survival, redemption, Djimon Hounsou's muscles, and Heath Ledger's ability to take a beating. What it's *not* about is colonialism or the politics of Empire. It's worth seeing for some truly spectacular desert photography, and a reminder that Heath Ledger could look just as much like Christ as The Joker.

As remakes go (yes it is) this isn't bad. Considerable attention to detail and the storyline is of epic proportions (not to mention the headcount). So it's not going to buckle many swashes, but it's honest, well filmed and a genuinely good tale that honestly reflects the times it portrayed.. Give it a go.

Better than I expected from the generally negative reviews. Why the Indian director cast an Aussie (Ledger) and an American (Hudson) as the young Victorian-era English lovers at the center of the film is beyond me, but the actors generally keep their accents straight and it wasn't too much of an issue. Worth noting that my wife and 16 year old daughter LOVED the romance and pageantry, so this might work as a date rental for some of y'all.

Epic! Epically by the numbers, that is. It's not terrible, but as far as "gripping adventures of epic proportions go," it's lukewarm and fairly forgettable.
