A bit of a mixed bag. I thought most if not all of the acting was fine, and Han was the most likable character, but I didn't really care for practically anyone all that much. I also thought the final solution to settle their differences was cheap. I will say the actual racing and driving looks WAY better than it did in the first two films. I can see why they kept Justin Lin in the directors seat after this. It's a pretty entertaining movie and definitely better than the one before it. Decent

Swing and a miss for the Slingblade kid, talk about a fish out of water. Can't lay too much blame at his feet though, the entire movie comes off like someone watched the first two and thought "good, but needs to be dumbed down a tad." I do enjoy the nintendo logic that makes drifting as much a turbo boost as the nitrous oxide was in previous installments, I was half-expecting bonus multipliers to start appearing on the drivers' HUD when they rounded those corners.

Not nearly as bad as I thought it would be. I liked the soundtrack, the shots of Tokyo, and the way the cars were presented. The plot was nothing special but it hummed right along and kept me entertained. It doesn't take itself too seriously, and the third movie in a franchise about streetcar-racing shouldn't.

Don't let anyone tell you otherwise - this car porn kitsch-fest is BY FAR the best of the franchise. The hilariously over-the-top dialogue, gorgeous Tokyo location photography, and the sheer lack of pretentiousness on display make for a hilarious, kinetic 100 minutes. The memory of a son coming home late to find his heartbroken father sitting in a dark kitchen, sternly asking "Have you been racing?" will never not make me laugh.

The fastest way around a corner is not drifting (that's how it originated after all) get over that and you'll notice there are a lot of good shots of drifting and hot chicks. Sadly they tried to weave these two things of beauty into some sort of mockery of the concept of "plot" interspersed with shots of "actors" , which really ruins it all. This movie would've been great if it were just Rhyse Millen clips and hot chicks, who needs plot with a combo like that?

Not exactly "Halloween III: Season of the Witch" (1982), but "Tokyo Drift" felt like a strange follow-up movie to the previous two films' stories. Where the third "Halloween" was intended to be a jumping off point to an anthology series of films, the third in the "Fast and Furious" franchise was a sequel/ prequel, side-character, world building story? In the end it was simply a modernized 50's high school teen movie plot with lots of bad acting and racing fun in Japan: 8 cans of Axe Body SprayTM

The driving scenes are excellent. And the asian cast members are fantastic. The American lead actor on the other hand, drags down every scene he's in. He looks about 35 and is supposed to be playing a 17 year old. The plot of course makes no sense either. Just watch this for some of the best precision driving ever filmed, and Sung Kang being awesome. The Japan setting is also pretty cool.

The Fast and Furious meets Better Off Dead from a director who figured out how to actually film and edit racing interestingly. This is a great snapshot of PlayStation 2-era culture at its most bargain basement price. Makes slightly more sense than the first two movies up until the dramatic final "loser-leaves-town" race.

I will grudgingly admit that Justin Lin does a great job directing racing scenes. The final climax contains a wonderful crane shot and shows a solid understanding of the language of film (even amidst awful CGI). But I hated every jejune, shittily-written character in that idiotic, formulaic, predictable, Sonny-Chiba-wasting screenplay except for Han. I still preferred it to its predecessors... in the same way a meat locker becomes more comfortable if you light a match.

Alright, if we ignore the negatives (the acting, the plot, the aesthetics) and focus on the positives (the cinematography, the themes, Sung Kang) we have a pretty decent B-movie attached to a franchise that it has barely anything in common with it. Although it does pick apart the issue of race (not racing) and some of the car chases are very well shot, the film suffers from becoming less fish-out-of-water and more crime-based near the end - losing its big strength.

It took a couple more films for Justin Lin to make the series worthwhile, but this at least showed he understood how to do it. And it's a pretty simple attitude: The plot is a gateway to spectacle. We're not crashing bank vaults through the streets of Rio yet but we do get a lot of precision driving, and while the plot isn't great, it is well positioned to deliver that precision driving.

Short of the brilliant lunacy of Fast Five, this is the best the series has to offer. Stripped of any real attachment to the first two, this stylish and fun romp owes a great debt to its director Justin Lin for shaking off the shackles of the franchise and bringing some real life and energy to the material. Black is likable enough, but it's Han who steals the show, and it's no wonder they bent the timeline to keep him in the films. Beautifully-shot car sequences and terrific location shooting.

dont wanna spend alot of time writing a review of this movie (like its writers didnt spend alot of time on the script) so here it is:really good car scenes to the point that every time they got racing I was fully involved, the onscreen action fabricating stakes that the story didn't actually provide. When the cars weren't revving, the bouncing soundtrack and Japanese surroundings were enough of a distraction from the lead's lack of leading man draw and the bland story that I was still having fun

So much better than the other F&F films because it knows what it is - it's not a serious police drama, it's a goddamn carsploitation film, and it doesn't waste time working that out. Justin Lin's direction is kinetic and stylish, giving the races a much-needed grace, and little touches (anti-grav tabasco sauce, DK's cigar-chewing uncle) make it clear they know just what kind of film they're making here. Fun as hell, if not great in any conventional sense.

This spin-off (or retroactive sequel) has improved action scenes thanks to Lin's direction but the plot is absolute garbage. The franchise isn't known for it's realism, but Black's casting as a high-schooler is the least plausible thing this franchise could ever do. The entire 1st act is just painful, and the rest of film might be a note higher, but plays in the same mediocre key. The action is decent, but it's an otherwise forgettable film.

The overall style and racing are hugely improved, but our entirely ill-advised protagonist is impossible to cheer for - a few charming smiles don't make up for an unbroken chain of horrendous choices. That the token female is almost textually a hostage trophy doesn't help the likeability of the cast - of whom the underused Han is the only bearable member. But yeah, the driving is far more watchable than what preceded it, so.

Te biggest outlier in the series. I think nobody expected a movie about a high school kid getting mixed up in the drifting scene and yakuza's in Tokyo. The protagonist is bland, the plot is forgettable, but thanks to Lin's directing this is still a good entry in the series. It feels like Lin was given the most cart blanche with this one. Especially the music choices are very inspired. Combined with some good stylized directing it manages to create some good moods,

Definitely the dark horse of the franchise, it's lead by the duo of Lucas Black and....Bow Wow....? Not inspiring faith to say the least. However, the setting of Tokyo and the amount of excellent races and car porn make up for some of it. It's just felt out of place till the 6th one, and I didn't care too much for anyone in it. He goes pretty fast at times but it's the fury that he's lacking in this one. I had a friend who had a Southern accent once and I didn't want to punch him in the face nearly as hard or as often as I want to punch this guy in the face for his annoying southern accent. Seriously I thought there was supposed to be something charming about a Southern drawl? That was not the case here and this movie definitely convinced me not to visit the South, although I would love to visit China someday.

Terrible acting by most involved, no plot to speak of and only vaguely related to the rest of the franchise. Still miles better than #2 due simply to the quality of the stunt driving and the gorgeous neon-soaked backdrop of Tokyo. The cinematography is hit and miss - too often it falls into Michael Bay-style cuts every 1/2 second but occasionally it has really beautiful long action scenes. I'll be happy if I never see Lucas Black in another film again though.

I don't care at all about cars, drifting, or racing, yet I enjoyed this, just like I enjoyed the first Fast & Furious movie. Why? I dunno. This might sound odd given how thin it was, but I guess I enjoyed the plot. The characters were colorful and entertaining, the music was on point, and that last race was some good shit. Much better than the crapfest of 2 Fast 2 Furious. Most of the actors are okay in their roles, but the film could do without Bow Wow's character as he didn't really bring much to it or rather he felt a bit forced in it. Tokyo Drift is a fun racing film in a really beautiful setting of Tokyo. The change of setting is actually one of the best things about it as it brings a certain freshness to it. Not the best film, but it's pretty fun and fans of the series should like it.

Lucas Black is a charisma black hole which is why no one tried to get him to headline a movie again. He also looks about 30 years old despite trying to convince us he's in high school. Maybe that was the surprise twist all along he's really a dirty pedo trying to join a Japanese high school. He's also one of the more inexplicable additions to the franchise. Bow Wow was arguably better in this. If it wasn't for Han and decent Tokyo drifting action scenes this would be one for the waste bin.

I like that characters are not just a flat meat ready to be killed, but created as human beings.Although the main hero's personality sucks, Han's presence makes up for it (and he's a real hottie, too!). Sung Kang plays with his whole being - not only mouth, but also eyes and gestures. Ranking isn't objective as extra points are just for an action in Tokyo - a director did a good job in creating this foreign atmosphere. If you like asian guys, then you won't need another reason to watch it anyway.

Tokyo Drift was a disappointment and I can't believe how many people enjoyed this weak spin off. The downfall of this film is the absence of any of the original characters and bar Sung Kang the new additions add nothing to the series. However the films saving grace is the impressive direction of Justin Lin who has since reinvented the franchise for the better. Also the introduction of drifting and all the races are arguably the best in the series. But overall this is an underwhelming spin off.

The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift is a spinoff film. It features none of the cast of the first two films -- except for a last-minute, uncredited cameo that's sadly the film's highlight -- and it ultimately inconsequential. Is the drifting fun? At first, sure it is. It's used too frequently to stay that way, but at first, it was pretty cool. Some of the chase scenes are still fun, and I can't say I was frequently bored, but this is just another Fast and the Furious film.

This was worse than I anticipated. The dialogue was horrible. The lead actor wasn't any good and didn't look like he was 17 at all. Probably the most offensive thing was the film's treatment of women. I haven't seen something so misogynistic and demeaning to women in a long time. Lucas Black as a high schooler adds a lot more than the awful Paul Walker bits of the first couple of films as an undercover cop, and while the film's locale is in doubt, the film's universe is not, as Justin Lin wisely places as much focus on the dialogue scenes as he does on the racing.

Yes, it's definitely bad. But I do have to admit I was ready for a breath of fresh air away from the putrid second installment and enjoyed a different type of driving (drifting instead of just pure speed). Also, kudos to the director for capturing the races in a method way more tactile (and interesting) than the first films. That said, the acting is awful - how many scenes end with the main guy just smiling??? - and this ultimately seems irrelevant in the series.
