The Farmer Takes a Wife

The movie is not very good with its ideals of manly two-fisted men, but Henry Fonda delivers as the farmer. You can see "Tom Joad" in a couple of his orations about farming.

Henry Fonda makes an instant impression in his movie debut, and in the type of film he'd be best known for. A good piece of Americana as they glamorize the life around the old Erie canals. Fonda is reserved and firm. The way he speaks just grabs you right away. He was born to this type of role. Janet Gaynor is really good as a hardcore canal gal! The story lacks a little to grab a peak, but the surrounding life and characters is what makes this film so enjoyable.

It's got Henry Fonda talking about the life in the soil and I could watch that man talk about soil for hours.
