Full of stereotypes. Honestly I believe the writers tried to jam pack as many persecuted minorities as possible in with the gay and deaf son and his gay and black lover. Nothing really exciting happens in this movie. It's just simply watching social train wreck after train wreck that could be avoided if anyone involved had any social awareness or was willing to try and approach the situation with another point of view.

How do they all show up to Christmas together next year?? A man's brother is sleeping with his almost-fiancee, the almost-fiancee's sister is sleeping with that same ex, and the mother has died in the interim. This is the sort of shit that tears families apart and sends them to Jerry Springer, instead of resulting in wacky shenanigans.

The Family Stone didn't do anything revolutionary. It told a pretty good story of an unconventional family who are meeting their eldest son's girlfriend for the first time. The characters in the family were interesting. The acting was well done. The script was smart in parts but predictable in other parts which is why this movie didn't pull me in as much as I wanted it to. I found the justification for who ended up with who to be full of holes and unbelievable. I'd recommend it for few people.

Painfully stupid!
Poor acting, false emotions, terrible premisse. This movie has it all. Stereotipes that can't be mixed in one movie. All inclusive. Pure waste of time.

It's a bit too contrived and combative. But the family feels real, credit the acting. It finds a way to tug at heartstrings, while also delivering some genuine laughs.

A nice girl comes to visit her boyfriend's "open-minded" family that welcomes her in the most judgemental and hostile way imaginable (apparently because she clears her throat and isn't as terrible a person as they are) except for one brother with a snow fetish, who wants to bang her instead (love at first sight, lol) and her boyfriend falls for her sister the second he sees her (another eye-roll) and dumps the girlfriend in front of the whole family. Just disturbing and anti-Christmas-spirit.

One spontaneous chase scene, a madcap family most of whom seem to have putty for brains, and plenty of cheesy hanky-panky nonsense. Watch in feigned amusement as Parker annoys the hell out of everyone time and time again, especially the viewer. Alas, I suppose the hilarity is too much for my simple mind. Of course, there must be some vague message of togetherness for the holiday period. You're stuck with family, no matter how comprehensively retarded they all are. These idiots however...

Weirder movie than I expected, but I went in relatively blind. Segments are focused on being comedic while others are focused on being sentimental. It's interesting to see such a prolific cast portray such largely unlikeable characters. The unbelievable ending didn't seem to fit the movie, and ultimately a big contributor as to why I don't really recommend this.

Speaking only for myself, with plots like this movie have I have to be in the right mood to cry my eyes out. I am firm believer that their should be some comedic relief in even the darkest of dramas. The viewer needs a break from the mundane. This movie gives no such break and you should be prepared to be depressed the entire time and for awhile after.

Unexpectedly charming family dramedy loses its way when it indulges in Fockerish hijinks, but scores strongly in charting the interactions between its eclectic family of characters, and gives Keaton the first (and far away the best) example of her 'Mad Mum' caricatures, though the screenplay gives a rock-solid (and very moving) foundation for her behaviour.

The Family Stone is a harmless Christmas movie, but takes no risks and is so predictable that it hampers the ability for the film to make the audience care. I was bored by what happened for most of the middle, and I couldn't bring myself to care about any of it. The cast members are strong and I would have liked to see them doing something more worthwhile with their time. It might make you laugh a bit, but it's not worth the time it takes to do that.

Pretty standard family dramedy. Tugs on all the heartstrings you'd expect from a movie like this (especially the dying parent and disabled and gay son), but manages to come to a somewhat satisfying conclusion. Not recommended, but if you have to watch it, it won't be that bad.

Deliciously good movie about the incredibly uptight girlfriend of a New Yorker who goes with him to see his Jersey family for the Christmas Holidays. It would have been a great opportunity for her to bond with her boyfirned and his siblings and parents, especially since he loves her more than she knows. Too bad she succesfully insults every single member of the family within ther first few days of her being there, and makes her boyfirned seriously reconsider their relationship. Good movie. It is

A funny, entertaining, well-acted, but painfully uncomfortable movie. The entire theater was awkwardly and visibly restraining itself from laughing at the frequent on-the-edge jokes about sexuality, racism, etc. Luke Wilson is the only bastion of natural, warm humor - otherwise, it can be a rough (but ultimately enjoyable) ride.
