Post-Scream, we had an influx of late 90's teen horror movies with rock soundtracks. This one was different: a sci-fi picture that felt like you watched 1978's Invasion of the Body Snatchers back-to-back with The Breakfast Club. It has some creepy things: namely the suspense of being immersed with these kids trying to solve the mystery. But the cast (and comments towards the bisexual character) make it more of a time capsule & less a timeless film. Marginal recommendation for the campy fun.

A campy slasher flick about high school sports turning people into mindless aliens while education gets short shrift. It's no coincidence that the smartest kids are the ones who last the longest, or that the jock who quits the team is the one who manages not to be instantly turned. Besides that, it's just a lot of fun, with nice nods to Alien, The Thing, Invasion of the Body Snatchers et al. Where's all the hate coming from?

Very fun. More Robert Rodriguez doing what he does best; cheesy, well paced movies with some decent performances and characters easy to root for. I loved all of the effects and seemingly high stakes. It isn’t a great movie, but it’s a good time for you’re looking for a time killer this Halloween season.

A cheesy and absurd guilty pleasure. This is one of the movies I think of first when I think of 90s films. While not particularly scary, it does have a few scenes that are genuinely creepy and it blends surprisingly well with how goofy it is. Even the characters are fine for their respective roles (Jordana Brewster is always nice to look at) Does it have some of the annoying high school schlick? Yep, and sure, it's predictable. I don't care. I still have a very good time with this.

Invasion of the Body Snatchers meets Breakfast Club. This is way better than it has any right to be. The cast goes on for miles and Rodriguez directs with a restrained cool. Robert Patrick slow-motion mugging with fireworks in the background is everything.

Comparable to Scream in that it's a buffet-style homage to a lot of horror flicks, particularly THE THING and INVASION OF THE BODYSNATCHERS. I have no idea where all the vitriol is coming from because it's great camp-horror and has a very colorful cast.

A satisfying high school update of Body Snatchers (and many other films), The Faculty is not very subtle in its ideas of depicting teen angst in terms of sci-fi paranoia -- the clash between students and alien teachers is a good, but naive allegory of how cold and bossy the social authorities are --, but a catchy ride about critical discoveries -- sexuality and drugs. The only way to find out if you are just like everyone else (cold and polite) or unique is getting high. Silly, but fun.

This kind of plot has been done to death, of course, but there's a reason for that, namely that, good or bad, these movies are almost invariably fun. One of my favorites from Rodriguez.

Does this feature-length 'Buffy The Vampire Slayer' episode automatically get off scot-free for ripping off two science fiction classics just because it openly considers itself a homage? I don't think so. Fun, for sure, but you've got to do more than copy and paste set-pieces from 'The Thing' into high-school scenarios to get credit from me. And apparently Finney's 'Invasion of The Bodysnatchers' is just a rip off of Heinlein's 'The Puppet Masters'? I guess I'll go read that then.

The Faculty is about a group of people who fear that another group may be aliens from another planet, set out to destroy them. In this case, though, the first group is made up of high school teenagers, and the people they believe to be out to get them is their teachers. One can imagine, how difficult it might be for these student's to get anyone to believe them. Even with the skepticism, though, the students are forced to take care of these aliens before they take "care" of the whole plane

Everything Williamson got right in Scream" he's spent the rest of his career getting wrong. The Faculty has its strengths, a good cast and an idea that could lend itself to either 50s B-movie fun, 70s serious paranoia or 90s teenage angst... but not all three at the same time.

It's fast-paced, mildly gory and knows how much detail it can leave out of the plot and still work. We have no idea where the aliens come from or what their plan is, but since Hartnett's home made designer drug defeats them, we get a version of the blood test sequence from "The Thing" where each of our protagonists needs to take drugs to prove they're human.

Question, pourquoi Usher est sur l'affiche ?

Entertaining riff on BODY SNATCHER movies is not quite as clever or subversive as SCREAM, but it’s in the ball-park; largely relies on its well-stacked cast to do amusing call-backs (Patrick’s doggedly persistent football coach and a demented Laurie the most overt). I’m happy to give Williamson/Rodriguez benefit of the doubt in their blatant appropriation of imagery from BODY SNATCHERS (and Carpenter) – it’s all good fun, and the alien make-up effects are suitably crude and chillingly effective.

Way above average teen thriller flick that made good on the 90s formula. Don't expect too much of the Rodriguez flair or innovation here, but he knows exactly what he's doing and turns in a solid film that hits all the expected beats. Amongst the who's-who of millennial stars turning in passing efforts, Hartnett and Brewster make a likeable pairing. It's a shame they never yet managed to equal their work here.

I had high hopes for this - a pulpy horror film which playfully suggests that yes, your school teachers ARE from another planet? (I think the tagline for the posters was this as well!) Such a boring film though - all the high school drama dominated the picture, with the actual horror being a sort of afterthought. The young cast largely do well though, even the otherwise shit Josh Hartnett - and the supporting cast is great. It just could have been much more.
