The End of the World

A calm but imminent resignation washes over the world as a meteor plummets toward it. Only in the last seconds before it hits does everyone finally show their true colors. Blom directs this movie with as much patience and care as anyone would a character study, because that's really what it is, and the character is humanity. Any remake today would take someone like Charlie Kaufman to keep it about the people. I can't get the image of a sky pierced with the haunting white streak out of my mind.

A Danish disaster film from 1916 where a comet will come and destroy the land. And August Blom sure captured the destruction with fire, explosions, water effects and so on. A real apocalyptic story! In some parts during the build-up the story lags a bit and becomes boring, but the acting and overall production is still strong and ends in a memorable way.
