Deserves much less hate than it gets, I think something just rubs people the wrong way about making a kids movie based on what kids use for texting. Fuck, that DOES sound bad. What I mean is it's not a bad idea to make an animated movie about emojis, because...nope, I don't have any reasonable way of justifying it. But it still didn't suck that bad, not like castration or anal rape.

I can't believe this huge advertisement even exists. How is this ok? It feels disgusting to know how many companies have profited from this piece of shit. The movie itself is annoying and bland, the plot is too simple, the voice acting is bad. Very uninspiring overall.

Suffers a bit from Wreck-it Ralph and Inside Out already existing. It makes sense they'd try to do make such a meh... movie, considering... I highly doubt that's what they were going for, though.

As someone who watches their fair share of bad movies, I like to think I have good sense of how truly bad a movie is. So with all the hate surrounding this notorious poop emoji of a film I was kind of curious to see if it lived up to the hype, and although not a total dumpster fire, it certainly is bad. However, this mainstream generic blatant cash-grab is more befuddling lazy in how bad it is than anything else. Never close to being so-bad-it's-good, not really even meh at its best, but blah.

It's not AS BAD as the reputation would have you believe, but it's not good either. As many have stated, it's like a bland mix of Wreck-it-Ralph and Inside Out. The good things include colorful and fun animation, but the story and emotional weight don't measure up to superior genre staples.

I find it comical that I watched this movie through a webm someone made to troll me. That said, the movie is as vapid as what every critic has claimed it is - the jokes are juvenile and cringey, with every obvious joke you can imagine being tossed at the window. The plot is unsurprisingly puerile and cookie cutter, to the degree I was able to predict the whole thing within the first 5 minutes of viewing it. It's astounding this was even made, and its shittiness surprises no one.

What do you get when suits dictate art? Something too shallow to be heartfelt and too stupid to be taken seriously. Basically, it's an hour+ commercial, and not a good one at that. I was more invested in that commercial pretending to be a movie trailer for the son of Crocodile Dundee. I feel for the creative team, they had to work with such a stupid premise.

As far as family/kids movies go, this one was pretty nice. If you really think about it, the values and the moral story was very well-implemented. Also it was cute. The negative reviews I assume are because people went in expecting Oscar-winning drama from an animation about emojis. Get over yourselves, critics.

First thing's first: "The Emoji Movie" is not the death of cinema as we know it. It's vibrant and poppy and just well acted enough to be the bare minimum of mediocre. Even some of the set pieces land. But even though it may not be a disaster, it sure isn't great, with characters, soulless, humour, pandering, and product placement endless, rampant, and utterly inept, and unabashedly so. But when it really comes down to it, "The Emoji Movie" is just too baseline competent to be truly awful. Meh.

Bad. Not horrible or mediocre, just bad. A waste of time. 20 because it actually has some kind of plot and is watchable if you turn your brain off I guess.

The animation is good but so genric, its the same 3D style of every fucking 2000's movie and the writing ooohh boy. The writing is something all right, something awful that is. All the twists, are predictal and the climax is so predict and genric, anything this movie does another movie does and does better.

A movie that should never have been made. It goes for a certain breed of humor but ends up being just bland and forgettable when it isn't embarrassing itself.

I see a straight line from Toy Story to the Lego Movie to this. Sure, it's a little bit worse in just about every way (cast, worldbuilding, plot, characters, message, product placement, ...), but I'm a bit perplexed that the first two are celebrated as the non-plus-ultra while this is decried as the worst movie of all time.

This is kinda like if Foodfight! had a budget & decent CGI or something. I'm not saying it's any better, it's just a more cleanly presented cynical talentless cash grab. I am giving up watching shitty children's films I swear & sticking with godawful horror movies from now on; thanks The Emoji Movie for totally crushing me.

There's some surprisingly decent humor in there at times. The message of the movie is weird though, it's like nobody learns anything and there's no proper ending... or is there? Honestly unsure. Also, product placement. So much product placement.

Seen the poster? You've just seen the movie. As horrid and vapid as the lores on the Internet have told. (And no, I'm not a movie snob as evidenced by my ratings history.) I don't mind obscure, ridiculous, self-aware, confrontational, absurd or provoking, but this movie ticks none of those boxes. The greatest sin for this movie was that it was boring.

This movie is so erratic and never really stops to actually have a plot. It wastes the talent of the cast and never gets going. An emotionless emoji movie is a bad movie.

A painful experience through and through. Essentially a 90 minute advertisement for cell phone apps. It's a rip-off of many superior films, such as Wreck-It Ralph, The Lego Movie, and Inside Out without any of the charm those films had.

This film has one funny joke, but the rest is so poor, that I can't seem to remember what that joke was...It's rather sad honestly. When it comes to animation however, I can't fault it; it flows well and never looks ugly.

If you scanned your smartphone you'd likely be able to find a suitable emoji to represent this airy little social media-inspired movie. That said, you'd probably end up choosing someone from Gene Meh's family tree.
