I find it amazing that it took so long to win World War II when every single German sniper apparently would shoot from inside a building and then stand directly in front of the window until the return fire found him, then fall forwards through that same window.

The fact that they called the sequel "The Dirty Dozen: The Next Mission" instead of "The Dirty Baker's Dozen" is a crime against humanity.

Good thing it has a plot interesting enough to carry it, because there's almost nothing else interesting going on. Some competent--and a lot of not-so-competent--actors are given essentially nothing to do but hit their marks and recite utilitarian-at-best dialog, and the whole thing has zero style. It's like a two-and-a-half-hour-long television show.

Thoroughly entertaining war film that mixes both comedy and action. Lee Marvin is awesome here and the supporting cast is good. There's no moral contemplation here it's all pretty much fun. Is it realistic? No, but it is a hell of a fun watch.

I feel like there's an excellent premise to the story, along with an excellent cast, but the film is just poorly executed in its pacing and content. We spend practically half the movie in boot camp, when only a handful of the Dozen are highlighted, and we're just supposed to like these convicted criminals based on actor's charisma (only 1 is depicted as crazy). There wasn't much time left to set-up the actual mission which, although exciting, would have been even better with a harder Rating.

Just be a General; walk slow, look stupid and act dumb. "Where you from son?" "Madison City, Missouri. Sir." "Never heard of it." LOL!

While it could stand to lose a half hour, it's a really well done mix of action and drama with a dark comedic edge.

The entirety of this movie is full of action, and good old fashioned war. Donald Sutherland is undoubtedly at his best in this movie, and every single one of the dirty dozen is great. This is one of the top five war movies ever made.

Kind of lighthearted entertainment for a war movie. And it is entertaining enough most of the time, but it's way overlong and you know, I can't help but feel that a cast including Lee Marvin, Ernest Borgnine, Charles Bronson, John Cassavetes, Donald Sutherland and George Kennedy, just possibly could have been put to better use.

Pretty cool stuff; I liked it a lot. It seems a bit behind the times: the general feel of the movie is more in tune with the 50's mentality than 1967. I feel compelled to compare it to The Great Escape (probably mostly just because I saw that one recently as well), and that film is clearly superior in a number of areas -- notably the way it manages to make its characters unique without them being exaggerated. I like the characters here too, though.

Most of "The Dirty Dozen" is very entertaining, but once they start their mission the wheels come off. The battle scene doesn't hold up and just seems silly instead of dramatic. It's still an enjoyable film but not the classic I once thought.

Great bit of entertainment, but overshadowed by it's contemporaries. The overlong training segment is an indigent's 'The Great Escape', and as exciting as the final raid is, I'd be inclined to recommend 'Where Eagles Dare' over this for a thrilling infiltration mission.

I am stunned at my reaction to a film I saw many times on the television in years before I turned 25. It is just an appalling piece of nihilistic, cynical film-making. Casting is often questionable, to say the least. Spectacular, though.

A classic film. Essential to most cinephiles, but not necessarily essential to me. The premise is silly and one that Inglourious Basterds clearly pays homage to, but on the plus side, the film features some of the greatest actors of its era.

Swings from blustery cockamamie entertainment about mischief makers in war to revolting, spirit-demolishing picture of men dying in a genuinely throttling finale with deftly unseen transition, brought off by Aldrich's harshly resourceful style.

I love how in these movies the higher you go up the chain of command in the military the dumber you get lol! Some great stuff here though, its like a training ground for a lot of the stars of the 70's and 80's.

Way too long and uneven. Lost points towards the end (the chalet sequence is more like a mob hit than a military maneuver) and I kept expecting some redemption twist, but there is none.

Marvin is great as the original cut-the-crap guy. Movie is way too long though, and diffuse (they could've lost that whole MASH-like middle section). And the footage of the chalet attack seemed a bit incoherent. There also were a couple of hokey humor sequences (the camp-building montage and the thing with the hookers). Still, for the most part it was ripping good fun. Oh yeah, and one great line: "Feed the French and kill the Germans."

Some funny scenes and good war action, but this flick is at least 30 minutes too long. Aldrich needed to trim some of the fat out of the middle of this, it seemed like the training went on forever.
