The Devil's Rock

Better than you'd think given the Hot Near-Naked Demon Girl cover art, which usually is only present when a really awful piece of trash is trying to reel you in with boobs because it can't offer anything else. This offers plenty, though, including three very good performances and lots of brutal looking gore. There's also pretty cool demon makeup and good-looking cinematography. It moves at a rapidfire pace, too, which is always a plus. Worth a look, honestly.

Top badass moment? The Colonel’s demon banishing ritual. I bet he never has any trouble dealing with customer services anywhere, or getting fooled by the hypnotic lure of their extra Nectar points or a free upgrade. And why do all these soldiers have such good-looking partners? They can come and desecrate my flesh and devour my soul anytime they want. The main disappointment with this film is the lack of a “Gott im Himmel!” or “Achtung Spitfeuer!”. 1 decapitation, no cats or chainsaws.

A surprisingly competent lil' horror movie. The concept is fun, an interesting amalgam of WWII movie and sexy demon fare, drawing upon the Nazi obsession with the occult. The scale is small, but good use is made of the few sets, building an effective atmosphere. Acting is pretty decent, particularly the antagonistic Nazi witchdoctor and demon herself, striking a good balance between campy and genuine menace. Nothing too groundbreaking or original here, but an effective little genre entry.

It's no bad per se, but you have to love the mix of all these 6 genres. And that with just 3 actors...

i'm a big fan of supernatural horror movies and war movies and when the two collide it's like some sort of magical firework show for me. i did expect to get let down on this one, but it's actually a pretty good movie. i do wish that the body count was higher. to anybody not a fan of this bastard crossover genre, i would avoid this movie.
