A remake of Frank Capra's Submarine (1928), Devil's Playground is a snappy Columbia "B plus" picture starring Richard Dix and Chester Morris. Submarine officers Dorgan (Dix) and Mason (Morris) battle on land for the affections of dance-hall girl Carmen (Dolores del Rio). She marries Dorgan but makes a play for Mason when her husband is on duty. The romantic rivalry is forgotten when Dorgan must rescue Mason and his crew from a sunken sub. (allrovi.com)

A fairly strong Colombia production with Richard Dix & Chester Morris as two big submarine personalities getting their friendship broken over a girl. And it's no random girl. It's over the stunning Dolores del Rio! She's a bit of a skank here. Both the story and production is economical. That's normal for Colombia, but they gets some good effects out of the scenes with sweaty muscular men posing while surviving under sea. I'm sure the females where satisfied with what this had to offer.
