Superb and gentle directorial debut that's just about on the same level as Bergman's best, this is quality filmmaking on almost every level, with the children acting being some of the best. We also see the Brothers of the seminary, whose own stories and views on faith and the way the school operates is outstandingly revealing and shows a number of strongly presented opinions.
