Sgt. Detective Joe Leland (Frank Sinatra) gets deeply involved in a puzzling murder case while also dealing with marital issues. A surprisingly bold and compelling detective drama with Sinatra offering a solid performance alongside Lee Remick as his wife and Jack Klugman as his police partner. The novel it was based on had a sequel later optioned in the 1980's that became the basis for the hit "Die Hard."

Not bad at all.

Other than some bad acting and the whole "homosexuality made me a self-loathing homicidal maniac" thing, this downbeat 'Scope film starring Frank Sinatra is okay.

Worth seeing for historical value, but the main attraction here is Sinatra's amazingy wistful, resigned and clear-eyed performance as a washed-up flatfoot.
