The Deliverance

Some people might say Glenn Close never actually became possessed.

A long build-up that suggests the filmmakers want to have it every which way, offering every possible perspective on the factors that might explain the strange happenings as a way of letting the film function as a Rorschach test for viewers. Once the main event comes, however, all that gets forgotten in a procession of highly standardized scenes familiar to aficionados of this particular sub-genre. If it had been made in the 1970s, presumably the title would have been The Blaxorcist.

I was enjoying the family drama, with hints of horror, for awhile. Then the third act came. It climbed the walls backward, and any subtlety left was lost.

Generational trauma, the movie.

I'm having a hard time deciphering whether this is a horror or comedy movie. The cast is excellent and they do their best to make this strange and ridiculous script they are given look good, but it doesn't work. I was very curious when I watched the trailer, but the movie itself is complete bullshit. While The Deliverance tries to be a clever horror story about single motherhood, it fails and turns into the cringiest film of the year. What a mess.

Really uneven, first half is decent but once it really gets into the demon stuff it takes a pretty steep nose dive

This wasn't a terrible movie but it wasn't a very good one either. The non-horror parts were much stronger than the poorly handled and cringy worthy horror scenes.
