The Delightful Forest

A strange, light hearted silly tale of a drunken hero who beats up random bad guys in between bouts of drinking. The fight scenes which are plentiful are fun if not overly well done. The quick pace and whimsical feel of the film make it an easy watch. The end of the film however is a 12 minute bloody battle.

A terrible movie by the usual criteria. But you can't be mad at all, since it's so fun. Paraphrased example of awesome: 'Let us drink! He is probably dead by now! (Evil laughter.) (Jumping out of bushes.) That's what YOU think! I will avenge my honor!' - You know. Classic.

Das Dilemma unseres Protagonisten ist, sich zu entscheiden, ob er tugendhafter, gutgläubiger Held oder dummes abgebrühtes Arschloch sein möchte. So bereitwillig wie er für irgendwelche zwielichtigen Gefängnisbetreiber den Handlanger spielt. Oder besoffen irgendnen Typen verdrischt weil ein anderer Typ ihm das gesagt hat. Und sowas wie eine Heldenreise, bei der er irgendwas dazulernt gibt's auch nicht. Er stolpert von einer Sache in die nächste, bis der Film vorbei ist. Die action ist super.

Cheh Chang and Kuang Ni were making way too many movies for SB in those days. Delightful Forest distinguishes itself only by a couple of fight scenes where the hero is locked up in stocks. Other than that it's easily forgettable among the flurry of Shaw Bros. output of the early 70s.
