The Deer King

Tbh I found some aspects of the worldbuilding to be annoyingly convoluted, with the various factions and the "rules" of the curse and who it infects etc. But the presentation was so top notch it made up for it - superb animation, beautiful settings and locales, very well done action scenes, emotional journey etc. It was also nice to see an anime with a protagonist who was a grown-ass grizzled MAN and not some manner of child / youth.

"Not Good" is incorrect, more undecided. This is a hard one to rate - the animation is solid to good (some ex-Ghibli personel are involved) but the plot varies from impenetrable to generic and though I think I caught the basics it was overall hard going - a number of reviews said "reminds me strongly of 'Princess Monanoke' [unseen by this reviewer] but the story is not as good". One thing IMO that was perfect was the creation of the Yuna character. See it and make up your own mind.
