Dick died last night, and Zeke and Earl don't want anybody finding out how. That's too bad though, cause news travels fast in small-town Alabama (IMDB).

Someone saw Fargo 30 times then shot for the stars but landed in Alabama! - Wasted potential. | Deeply bizarre central plot but NOT enough quirky humor and oddity from the 2 lead guys: neither inherently in the actors themselves, nor from their performances. | ?The cops & doctor get closer to that Fargo/Coens tone | Watchable & definitely not worthless, just a rather sub-par attempt

dunno what it says about me that i had the ‘twist' figured out before the opening credits ended. anyways, this is a little too generous to be dismissed as Chad Kroeger's Fargo, but beyond those queasy yet desperately sad scenes of zeke habitually retreating to his safe haven, it doesn't 'get weird' in the way its subject demands, nor is it worthy of its stated influences (among them are nabokov and d. g. green lol). newcomb is the MVP, more than a pinch of sissy spacek about her.

god damn. the first half of this movie is an amusing black comedy about two idiots doing a dumb thing and making it worse by doing even dumber things; the second half is a harrowing family drama about the consequences of a revelation which prevent any hope of reconciliation. both halves are fine, but the moment the first bleeds into the second is incredible, and if you're familiar with the source material, the sleight of hand of what you've been watching is masterful. great performances.

Well, there was quite some potential for another Fargo, but they screwed that up.

Like "burn after reading" set in Alabama. Stupid ugly people do stupid and ugly things. They try to cover it up and reveal themselves as even bigger hypocrits. Film has a few good laughs but fails to make these dumbasses relatable.

An attempt to represent contemporary American republican politics by focusing on how it unfolds at the local-social level in American south. The look alike family father Zeke is the embodiment of American conservatism's hypocrisy: it sells the fake image of a loving family father (politician) that upholds the moral views, while engaging in corruption and moral decadence behind the scenes. I liked its neo-southern-Gothic narration, but it's just too sentimental and Sundance bait for me.

Some hick buzzed on my intercom and said "'Dick Long is Dead"

Mildly amusing, mildly tense. The tones are muddled. It's played too straight for the humor, but the script is too goofy for the tension, so you're left in an awkward space where nothing excels. I don't buy that in a town so small there supposedly hasn't been a murder in anyone's lifetime that Dick's body would go unidentified, or that his wife wouldn't connect the big news of the murder to his sudden disappearance. The protagonist was nowhere near likable enough to be invested in his struggle.

Pure nu-metal, how did this come out in 2019?

It tries to simulate what was already done masterfully in the film Fargo and also in the series that bears the same name... but it doesn't even come close.

I have a friend who said this movie had the twist of the decade and while none of you know him trust me that once I discovered what it was his love for it turned out to be the most on-brand thing ever

A Coenesque story of a bunch of not so smart dudes trying to not-so-smartly cover up a horrible event. Hilarity definitely ensues.
