In the 1930s Paramount tried to cash in on the popular tango icon Carlos Gardel casting him in several Spanish speaking films. In El día que me quieras (1935) he gets to sing a few heartfelt songs which I'm sure hit home to it's target audience. In my opinion, this one was better then his previous film - Tango Bar (1935). Sadly however, apart from a brief appearance in The Big Broadcast of 1936 (1935), this became his last film as he would die in a plane crash on June 24, 1935.
