Does for farming what Lawnmower Man did for virtual reality psychology. Not really. The film is draped in atmosphere and it needs to be at its glacier pace, but the atmosphere that I watched it in with a talkative house guest prevented me entirely from getting into the groove of it. If patience is a virtue than heroes may love this.

The Babadook 2: The Twilight Years. Having to take care of ailing parents is certainly a good source of tension, and this certainly builds a very effective atmosphere, but at some point it just feels like "something is happening for some reason and it can do anything at any time" and I find myself just watching actors act scared.

Good atmosphere and some tension moments, but the script makes no effort to explain why everything happens, resulting in a shallow film.

It has some creepy scenes, it starts well, but it doesn’t maintain its atmosphere. Other than the suicides, the script doesn’t make sense of any of the scares. There aren’t any kind of “rules” for the ghosts/demons, they just do whatever. There are some good moments, but they’re held together by a mediocre script. Personally, I’d say The Strangers and The Monster are both better films from Bertino.

It floors me people are not completely fed up with this type of horror movie. It has zilch to add to the genre and is just a hilariously predictable collection of tropes with barely any coherence. And then it gets generally positive reviews? I understand the investors perspective as they want a profit and don't care about art, but are deeply uncurious viewers really so braindead and addicted to this formula that they will binge on the same 20 jumpscares over and over again for a CENTURY?

Holy F*^$. Very slow start, but these are some pretty extreme horror scenes. Not a lot is explained, but I can tell you that you will not feel very pleasant at the end.

I think the audience is so addicted to the formula itself by this point, that even a script this exceptionally uninvolving and stupid is forgiven. Why? You've seen these ghost-face-jump-scares and gore-turning-out-to-be-imaginary a gazillion times before. The allegories are inane. It's about as scary as the Care Bears. Why is there still a market for this same old same old?

What if Hereditary was actually good or The Exorcist gets a contemporary take on rural Texas. Of course devil lives in deep America and this family is about to get totally obliterated by a nameless, faceless, out-of-context evil presence while they wait their dying father to finally die. Some good atmospheric, gruesome horror stuff about grief and trauma -- that's why the few but band jump scares just feel so clumsy, like the stupid final one. Ireland is awesome.

This movie has the mood down and I really loved the secluded sheep farm for a setting. The events just build up too slowly and become way too repetitive to feel shocking after a while. There are some genuinely great creepy scenes here, like the many-voiced demon thing and the female ghost with the knife and the janky movements. Other than that, it did outlive its welcome for me a bit. It could have been way shorter and felt more effective that way.

Had some creepy parts, but overall did not seem to have a lot of rhyme or reason.

Doesn’t completely work for me, but flipping the idea of trauma in modern horror to be used against a person is a pretty smart and refreshing idea.

Very creepy, minimalist movie, kinda gets bored of itself at the end. If you want anything explained, don't watch this.

Has some excellent individual scenes but doesn't cohere into something great, in comparison to something like Hereditary (interesting that another user feels the exact opposite). It's a bit nebulous as to why; in part because the characters are so straightforward it's hard to identify with them as well as feeling too passive.

An exercise in slow, sometimes effective, creepiness that doesn't make any sense. I have never yelled, "Get out of the house!" so often at a movie before.

Entertaining, contains some good old-fashioned demon related creepiness. If you want some cheap and forgettable scares, this one is not bad.
