If you've ever wished to see Jack Black getting his ass fucked, then this is the movie for you....

Could say something about male sexuality but rather goes for gay scare jokes. It doesn't help that no character has a complete arc and Jack Black plays one of his cringiest roles in a long time.

Much like its main character, this movie seems to struggle with an identity crisis. It's too broad to be taken seriously and too much of a downer to work as a comedy. None of its arcs resolve in a satisfying fashion.

Never funny, occasionally cringeworthy, but ultimately interesting in ways that I'd have never expected. With most comedies that third act drama BS serves only cliched formulas. Here instead its the "bro-film lol" atmosphere that's the pretense; the human dramatic core is, in fact, the real film. It's easy to see a good film hiding within, and to wonder what might have been if just a little more daring. A film dropping the traditional comfort of genre familiarity, and doing something real.

Some critics are getting all up in the face of this audacious dark comedy for, well, being audacious. What are we supposed think about a movie that doesn't conform to formula? I'd start with grateful.

Awkward. Mildly entertaining with some funny bits along the way.

As a film, The D Train is a rarity , in that it has me perplexed to whether or not I liked it. I'm not sure whether Black's character is more pitiful than douchey, but he's definitely both. The film is never really laugh-out-loud funny, but there are plenty of smiles to be had as you're presented with a continuous array of awkwardness. Overall it's somewhat entertaining, with a self-aggrandising wrap-up, that may leave you scratching your head, asking, "What did I watch?"

I probably enjoyed this a little more than I should have. However, that doesn't mean that this film isn't decent, because it is exactly that. It's awkward throughout, probably the reason why many people don't like it. Black humor galore and highly cynical at times, the D Train mocks 'good suburb citizens'. It's a little overlong and sometimes drags a little, all in all I was entertained and not let down. Who knew Jack Black would get f-cked in the ass some day by James Marsden? Funny indeed.

OK, I've been a victim often enough of misleading marketing and ambush movies but this one takes the prize--which in this case is big fat zero. I don't know if Jack Black is gay or bi or straight or androgynous or what and I really don't care; but I know he sold his soul for this one in an obvious act of career desperation. His character's disintegration driven by his lack of a grounded identity, sexual and otherwise, obviously subs
