The Current War

Come for the Edison vs Westinghouse plotline and stay for the left field electric chair history. This has its failings but it is absolutely gorgeous to look at. That this film is this beautiful is a testament to the work of Chung-hoon Chung. If not for his collaborations with Chan-wook Park, this might be his best work.

good movie

It's a decent enough movie that could have been a lot better. Tesla needed to be more of a focus than he was, almost feeling like most of his scenes must have been cut. The performances are good though, and it's cool seeing Dr. Strange, Spider-man, Beast and Zod all together in one movie :P

The most mediocre film you can get out of one of the most amazing stories in history. What kind of camera use and editing ws this? From the get go it was just mind bogling, it did slow down but, come on man.. Chill..

A tepid movie. Characters often muse on with undue grandeur, trying to trick the viewer into feeling a complexity and majesty revolving around these characters that just isn't there as far as what the film is able to achieve. I don't care much for historical accuracy, and how much this film dramatizes real events doesn't matter, but in each end of this spectrum, there is a far better, more engaging or informative story that can be told with these building blocks.

Tesla and his story done dirty, yet again. This time at the hands of Hollywood and creative liberties that paint Edison a sympathetic hero with a "quirky" ego problem that somehow manages to make his persona still likable.

I liked it. It did seem a bit rushed. I would have liked to really grasp why certain outcomes happened a little better. A good amount of drama. Interesting story, and lovely imagery.

Felt solid. And decent. And like it just wanted to tell the story in a sober and nuanced way, without coming down hard on either Edison or Westinghouse.

Is it bad? It's average. Is it memorable? Not really.

By coincidence, I happened to catch this and Pirates of Silicon Valley on back to back days. They share a very similar premise, as well as a stylistic ambition to do something more than a typical bio-drama. The Current War beats PoSV in every category, but the movie still fails to fully invest the audience in its story. I liked it, but there was plenty of potential to tell a grander, more magical, more confrontational, and more absorbing story.

Nice production, but without a good pace and bad historic content trying to present Thomas Edison, as a better person than he was.

I didn't hate this, but I won't remember much of it down the road.

It's disjointed and rushed, but the story is gripping and the performances range from good to great. It needed more Tesla, however, and maybe more Bell and Lumiere brothers.

A fast-paced period drama that reminded me more of The Prestige than it should, The Current War has solid aesthetics and a talented cast that make it a fun if slightly unsatisfying ride. I wish it dived more into the economic consequences for the American people of the two different systems, and in general it lacks thematic focus. As a piece of film to inform on what happened in a particular event, though, there are far worse to be found.

Sonunda severek ayrılalım gibi bitse de bunlar ne gizli işler çevirmiş. Sizden hiç elektrikli sandalye almadım.

Biyografi filmlerinin genel problemi olan tempo sorunu bu filmde var fakat bunu doğru oyuncu seçimi, iyi oyunculuk, başarılı kurgu, gerçeğe uygunluk ve iyi müzikle kapatmışlar. Ortaya bir an için biyografi olduğunu unutsak bile çok iyi film çıkmış. Başyapıt!..

Utterly boring and poorly (over) directed. Nicholas Hoult is a disaster.

Needed more Tesla.
