Haven’t felt this way about characters/people since The Tudors. Thomas Danforth (actually William Stoughton) and Abigail Williams are absolutely insufferable idiots. Acting all around is fairly good though, even if DDL’s speech at the end seemed a bit over the top, he did great overall.

I challenge you to find a film with more characters you wanna punch to death. In a predominantly good way that is.

It's a reject love story, with great actings. But it's too a lesson of history about the actions of Sant Inquisation, your mistakes, your power and the people thinks about life. Good movie... sad story.

Boy this is just like *insert pet modern day political issue* FAARRRTZ. Daniel Day-Lewis screaming his fucking head off about GOD IS DEEEAAD and IT IS MY NAAAME worth price of admission. Sure hope he didn’t do anything too weird besides hurting his throat a little *opens IMDB trivia* “Daniel Day-Lewis did not bathe or shower once throughout all filming to remain in character” goddamnit daniel *insert WHY CANT YOU JUST BE NORMAL Babadook meme*

Good film that suffers from the melodramatic cheese that was so prevalent in 90s Hollywood. (What's the story there?) I know, I know--the plot literally revolves around mass hysteria. Still: it shows its hand too much. Having said that, if you're going to go ham on the histrionics, you could do a lot worse than Day-Lewis and Ryder in the starring roles. On the whole, it does justice to its source material.

The entire cast -- mostly strong -- brings an intensity that goes a little too much towards hysteria, which would seemingly be perfect for this movie. Combined with the dizzying camera effects, it tries to disorient you and give a sense of being part of the turmoil. It's a fair presentation of how decent people can be enmeshed in a persecution that spirals out of control, but there's something in this period piece that makes it feel like it might never happen again.

Winona Ryder cost this movie 5 points in my rating and I might have been generous, at that. I blame her for Daniel Day Lewis's repeated need to retire from making films.

"The Crucible is a drama of ideas, but they seem laid on top of the material, not organically part of it." diye güzel demiş Ebert. yine de, her şeye rağmen, 90ların tadı bir başkaymış şimdiye kıyasla.

The Crucible is a must-see. This adaptation succeeds at exploring the sexual, religious, and political conditions that can give false accusations so much power. Daniel Day-Lewis and Joan Allen deliver Oscar-worthy performances here.

It's a commendable adaptation of the original play, and there is plenty that works, but arguably like its source material, Hytner's "The Crucible" operates better as an analogy than as an engrossing drama.

DDL and Joan Allen give amazing performances! The girls are irritating to watch, but then again, I think thats the point of the movie :D. Great ending to the senseless tale of a girl's imagination gone too far.

Pretty good adaptation of one of the all time great plays which, in turn, is based on the historical Salem witch trials. Winona Ryder gives a solid performance as the manipulative and detestable Abigail Williams, the driving point of this play/movie that grows more tragic and intense as it goes on.

I don't think the material lends to film well, particularly when you have Winona Ryder trying to stack up against Daniel Day-Lewis.

Strong acting, direction, and camerawork power The Crucible. The portrayal of the horror of the witch trials is very realistic, though probably not entirely historically accurate.

Somehow Arthur Miller pulls all the right strings in this play(/movie). The scene added in the movie is so unnecessary. It's hard not to get caught up in this story and these characters, even when you already know the end, as most of us do.
