A short originally billed to open for Monty Python's "The Meaning of Life", this is actually better than the full feature. Terry Gilliam at his finest.

Bizarre. There's not much more I can say about this that would make any sense. But then it's a Terry Gilliam story. It goes on a little longer than I would normally like for the amount of story it has, but it's still pretty fun.

You can sort of see the seeds of Brazil being planted here.

A short triumph for Gilliam, with the imagery foreshadowing some of the spectacle we'd see in Brazil and Adventures of Baron Munchausen.

It drags on a little long, but it's all worth it when that office building turns into a ship and they start singing.

It over-relies on its central joke, much like the film to follow it, but it also skewers capitalism and that always makes me happy.

I feel Gilliam has an anti-imagination, everything he does is so drearily predictable and weird only in a horribly ordinary way

A fun little pre-feature film -- although not an original tale, it's done in an original fashion and it's pretty darn funny (especially the make-shift weapons). Extra points for its implementation in 'The Meaning of Life'.

An absolutely brilliant short. The worst thing about this is that nothing else in Meaning of Life could possibly follow it.

Wonderful Terry Gilliam short sending up the ruthless Wall Street yuppies of the 80's as only the Pythons can. I love the geriatric pirate crew of the Crimson Permanent Assurance. Paired as the introduction to The Meaning Of Life.

If there ever was a good pirate film, and if ever the adventure music fit to the images and created the desired effect, that is a comic one, the Gilliams piece is certainly among the best. The Crimson Permanent Assurance is floating in the sea of financial markets, but one day after a mutiny, it sails away to attack the flagships of the industry on the high seas.

Mutinous and visually inventive parable about the ship of industry amounting to a critique of sorts of the financial sector, but one that, in the end, is not particularly interesting or amusing.

I generally like Monty Python shows, but this one is more miss than a hit. Clearly a Gilliam's handiwork it has all the trademarks of his craftsmanship. The problem is that it makes the point during the first few minutes, and the rest wasn't that fun to watch.

Amazing! Gilliam's short movie which I've seen at the opening minutes of Python's "Meaning of life". It captivated me, it was so different and yet very Pythonesque. The fact that there are no members of the Python troupe are in it was very odd to me, but that unmistakable touch of their charm can be felt throughout the whole movie. Pure Gilliam gold.
