The Conspirators

This film's biggest obstacle is that it cannot escape the comparisons to "Casablanca" as the films share a very similar story; and it doesn't help that the supporting cast contains Lorre and Greenstreet who were also in the earlier film. Lamarr is good, but Paul Henreid is no match for Bogart. It's competently directed by Negulesco and I need to seek out more of his films, but it does go on for too long and the whole prison plot could have been dropped. Worth a watch, but nothing special.

The Conspirators (1944) looks good, great cast! Moves awkwardly. The writing didn't work nearly as ambitious as it tried deliver and it was noticeable. Sydney Greenstreet & Peter Lorre were vital at giving the dark vibes making it fun to watch, but so much of the rest felt underwhelming.
