The Conqueror

I don't know what is more shocking: the fact that this movie was made or that, 64 years later, it was on television (thanks Covid!) This might be the worst movie of all time when considering budget, talent, story potential, and John Wayne's worst career performance in what has to be the most racist caricature I've ever seen. Oh, and this movie literally killed people. I now understand why Howard Hughes became a recluse, I wouldn't want to show my face in public if my name was on this.

From a film history perspective and if you're a John Wayne completionist it's interesting I guess. However, if I could give one movie a negative score this would be it. It has no redeeming value and in the process of making this a lot of people ended up dying from cancer due to radiation. It was just a bad idea all around. Bad acting, bad costuming, bad casting, bad script, bad history, and just terrible location scouting research and that's an understatement.

Probably The worst John Wayne movie ever. Why would he do this?

I can't stop laughing anytime the actors have to deliver a line and you can just see on their faces, "Really? THAT'S what you want me to say? You're serious? I'm a proper actor, you know, why the hell am I poncing around Utah in furs and a Fu Manchu mustache? And WHO THE FUCK cast John Wayne as Genghis Khan? This is a joke, right? Where's my agent?" Fortunately, there's plenty of drawn-out scenes of people riding horses back and forth for me to catch my breath in.
