The Commitments

A decent Irish dramedy out of the early nineties. could have been much heavier on the laughs, and has a decent selection of music. Nothing too special, but not a bad movie by any stretch.

One of the best rock movies ever made. Gets to the one fundamental truth about rock and roll: It heals.

A great, rowdy story, perfectly realized and cast -- one of those rare movie adaptations that's actually better than the (delightful) novel upon which it is based . . . in part because it has the authenticity of a documentary. The Commitments are definetely not tossers!

I really enjoyed this on its release for its vibrancy, watching again it’s still enjoyable but some of the humour has dated.

"The Commitments" delivers solid music with captivating storytelling that feels natural. It's an uplifting and engaging tale about dreams and perseverance driven by the power of music.

After around a gap of 30 years, it was good to revisit this. but it really doesn't cut the mustard. The idea of back street kids coming together and being as good as they are, overnight, is pretty far fetched, but the self destructive behavior of a successful band is even more ridiculous. This is two separate films.... a great film of some knock out songs, and a lousy film of kids behaving badly for no good reason. It's funny to start with, but is soon paled when you realise it's all for nothing

Sillier than I remembered but generally fun and light

I like the idea of Dublin soul

It has a joyousness that belies the actual situation confronted by its characters, and the neat and tidy ending is accepted with a little too much equanimity to be at all believable.

Sweet and silly, it may not be everyones cup of tea but its fairly earnest if not amazingly well done. The ending seems a bit rushed and anticlimactic.

I was told this movie was an Irish blues brothers...The characters may love soul music but I really found these performances lacking in the soul department....to the point where I had to turn it off.

Great story, top tunes. Probably not the most polished film you'll ever see, but the music more than makes up for it.

While a good movie on it's own, they completly abandon Roddy Doyles humor look to the book, and focus purely on the dramatic element. This is by no means a classic of any sort. Though it keeps a sometimes loose and sometimes very close definition of the book it is based on.

This would garner a much worse rating if the music wasn't just so great.

Em honra de Alan Parker (1944 - 2020). Vocês não tem ideia de como amo esse filme, nos anos 90 ele passava sempre na TV aberta e nunca deixava de assistir, plus é uma das trilhas sonoras que mais ouvi na vida. Continua um filme absolutamente delicioso. Blu-ray rip RARBG.

Might possibly deserve a rewatch but as far as I recall it was only slightly above average.
